GUN CRUSADER STRIPS DOWN IN FRONT OF TSA

November 22, 2010 (San Diego Union-Tribune)-- San Diego open-carry gun crusader Sam Wolanyk has taken off time from packing heat to packing, well, not much at all apparently.

Wolanyk entered San Diego International Airport on Friday for a trip to Barbados with a companion and declined to go through the full-body scanner. As anyone who has been following the story of Oceanside's John Tyner knows, that can trigger the controversial full-body pat-down by Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers.

Rather than a pat-down, Wolanyk decided to strip down -- to his shorts, actually Calvin Klein bicycle-like shorts, according to his lawyer, Jason Davis of Orange County.

TENSE, TROUBLING TIMES FOR SOMALIS IN SAN DIEGO

November 20, 2010 (San Diego Union-Tribune)--One foggy morning last week, more than 300 Somalis gathered on Colina Park’s basketball courts. They spread embroidered rugs over the hardtop, removed their shoes and lifted their prayers into the cool air.

They were celebrating Eid al-Adha, the end of the annual five-day pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Around the world, Muslims who cannot make that journey gather for worship, food and partying.

“It’s like another Christmas,” said Ahmed Malinomar, a property manager dressed in new white robes.

The festivities, though, were shadowed by disturbing news. Authorities often describe San Diego’s Somali population as patriotic as a Fourth of July parade. But in the past three months, this tightknit community has been rocked as five local Somalis — including Mohamed Mohamed Mohamud, the imam (spiritual leader) of a mosque in City Heights — have been accused of terror-related crimes.

ESCONDIDO: RIGHTS GROUP DECRIES DEPORTATION OF FAMILY

Grandmother, mother, 9-year-old turned over after traffic stop

November 20, 2010 (North County Times)--The deportation of a 9-year-old girl, her mother and her grandmother after a minor traffic violation earlier this month has sparked criticism from immigrant rights groups, who say that law enforcement officers should not enforce immigration laws, particularly as a result of minor violations.

BELIEVE THE JURY, DO NOT BELIEVE THE MAYORS
By Don Bauder

November 18, 2010 (San Diego Reader “ScamDiego” blog)-- A donnybrook is rumbling louder and louder in San Diego. The City revealed that it won't have its financial report for fiscal year 2010, ended June of this year, until June of next year, or six months late. The City has also stopped bond offerings. The City blamed a "computer glitch." Employees have been charging their time to the wrong accounts, claims the mayor's office. Employees used the wrong computer codes, citizens are supposed to believe.

It is time to review a report issued by the San Diego County Grand Jury in June of this year -- and review the City's response to that report.

LOCAL MEATS FOR FOODIES

November 17, 2010 (San Diego Reader)-- It all started last year, when I tried and failed to find a local turkey for Thanksgiving. I defined “local” as raised and processed entirely in San Diego County. This year, I decided to find local meat. I was up for anything: steer, chicken, lamb, turkey. Even buffalo would do.
