Augut 31, 2019 (San Diego's East County) - Here are this week's top East County alumni sports headlines:
 
August 25
 
El Capitan product Kevin Ginkel came in relief for the Arizona Diamondbacks as he pitched one inning and struck out one batter as the Dbacks defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 5-2. 
 
West Hills product Steve Strasburg started for the Washington Nationals as he pitched six innings, gave up five hits, two runs (two earned), one walk and struck out 10.  Strasburg didn't register the win, but the Nationals defeated the Chicago Cubs 7-5.  
 

 
August 26
 
Grossmont product Joe Musgrove started for the Pittsburgh Pirates as he pitched six innings, gave up five hits, two runs (two earned) and struck out six.  He didn't get the decision as the Bucs fell 6-5 to the Philadelphia Phillies. 
 
Valhalla product Greg Garcia went 1 for 3 with a single with two runs scored for the San Diego Padres as they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3. 
 
August 27
 
Grossmont product Ben Brault started for the Pittsburgh Pirates as he pitched five innings, gave up eight hits, three runs (three earned), one walk and struck out one but didn't get the win as the Bucs defeated the Phillies 5-4. 
 
Kevin Ginkel came in relief for the Arizona Diamondbacks as he pitched 0.2 innings and recorded one walk as the Dbacks defeated the San Francisco Giants 3-2
 
Women's Soccer:  Grossmont College was defeated by Santiago Canyon 8-1.  Maya Mozo scored the only goal for the Griffins. 
 
Valhalla alum Jeff Houghtby went 1 for 3 with a double and two runs scored for the Salem Keizer Volcanoes as they defeated the Eugene Emeralds 6-5. 
 
August 28
 
Greg Garcia went 0 for 4 with one walk and one run scored for the Padres as they were defeated in 10 innings by the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4. 
 
Jeff Houghtby went 1 for 4 with a single and scored two runs for the Salem Keizer Volcanoes as they defeated the Eugene Emeralds 10-5. 
 
Helix alum Jack Stronach went 2 for 5 with a single and double, two runs scored and three RBIs for the Tri City Dust Devils as they defeated the Vancouver Canadians 13-12. 
 
August 30
 
Kevin Ginkel came in relief for the Arizona Diamondbacks as he pitched one inning, gave up one hit and struck out one batter as the Dbacks defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4. 
 
Helix alum DaShawn Keirsey Jr. went 3 for 4 with three singles for the Cedar Rapids Kernals as they defeated the Quad City River Bandits 2-1. 
 
Jack Stronach went 1 for 4 with a single and RBI for the Tri City Dust Devils as they defeated the Vancouver Canadians 8-5. 
 
High School Football: 
 
Granite Hills 34 Mount Carmel 14:  Eagles QB Justus McComb--four touchdown passes of 34 yards to Jaquayle Hodges, 21 and 17 yards to Jacob Setterburg, 15 yards to James Robinson. 
 
Herrman of Utah 26 Helix 19:  Helix performers:  Eleyon Noa, nine yard touchdown run; breaks Reggie Bush's rushing yardage rercord of 5,000 yards. 
 
Damarius Hyde's 194 yards rushing along with two touchdowns scored paced the Braves of El Cajon to a 20-19 win over the Cardinals of Hoover. 
 
August 31
 
Steven Strasburg recorded his 16th win for the Washington Nationals as he pitched eight innings and gave up two hits and struck out 14 as the Nats defeated the Miami Marlins 7-0. 
 
Joe Musgrove started for the Pittsburgh Pirates as his record goes to 9-12 as he pitched six innings, gave up eight hits, three runs (three earned), one walk and struck out 5 as the Pirates defeated the Colorado Rockies by a 11-4 score. 
 
DaShawn Keirsey Jr. went 1 for 4 with a single and RBI for the Cedar Rapids Kernals as they defeated the Beloit Snappers 3-1. 
 
College Football News
 
Helix product Jahad Woods recorded six tackles for Washington State in their 58-7 win over the Aggies of New Mexico. 
 
 
 
Helix product Isaac Taylor Stuart recorded three tackles for USC in their 31-23 win over Fresno State. 
 
Helix product Scott Young recorded one tackle for the Arizona Wildcats as they were defeated 45-38 by the Hawaii Rainbows. 
 
Helix product Ezekiel Noa recorded four tackles for the Boise State Broncos as they defeated the Florida State Seminoles 36-31. 
 
Helix product Mekhi Stevenson caught three receptions for 35 yards for UNLV Rebels and scored an 18-yard touchdown reception as the Rebels defeated Southern Utah 56-23. 
 
El Capitan Vaqueros standout Isaiah Capocia of Sacramento State registered four tackles as the Hornets defeated Southern Oregon 77-19.
