RISING FOOD PRICES CAN TOPPLE GOVERNMENTS TOO
January 30, 2011 (NPR)--Political unrest has broken out in Tunisia, Yemen, Egypt and other Arab countries. Social media and governmental policies are getting most of the credit for spurring the turmoil, but there's another factor at play.
Many of the people protesting are also angry about dramatic price hikes for basic foodstuffs, such as rice, cereals, cooking oil and sugar.

MORE THAN 102 DEAD AND THOUSANDS OF PRISONERS ON THE LOOSE IN EGYPT AS 30,000 STRANDED BRITONS STRUGGLE TO LEAVE
January 30, 2011 (London Daily Mail) - Around 30,000 British tourists were stranded in Egypt today as army planes buzzed low over Cairo on the sixth day of uprisings.
At least 102 people have been killed, more than 2,000 are injured and there were calls for a multi-party democracy to emerge as President Hosni Mubarack's grip on power loosens.

CHARTER FLIGHTS TO CARRY THOUSANDS OF AMERICANS OUT OF EGYPT
January 30, 2011 (CNN) --Charter flights that begin Monday will ferry the first of thousands of Americans away from the escalating crisis in Egypt, the State Department said.

SOUTH SUDAN VOTES 99% TO SEPARATE FROM NORTH

BACHMAN EYES HEALTH CUTS TO VETERANS
January 28, 2011 (RawStory) -- Tea party hero Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) this week proposed a blueprint to eliminate $400 billion from the federal budget, which included billions in cuts to veterans' health care and disability benefits.
Her plan would freeze health care funding for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and slash $4.5 billion in disability benefits to military veterans.
