Key House panel sends impeachment resolution to the floor ahead of Thursday’s vote (CNN)

The House Rules Committee on Wednesday night advanced a resolution to establish procedures for Democrats' impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump ahead of an expected vote on the House floor Thursday.  The resolution, unveiled earlier this week, allows for public impeachment hearings, the release of deposition transcripts and outlines the Judiciary Committee's role in considering potential articles of impeachment.

Views of the economy are starkly split along partisan lines, and have barely budged as growth has slowed. That could make the economy matter less in 2020 than in past elections…Both major political parties have emphasized the economy in the early stages of the campaign. Republicans hope that a rock-bottom unemployment rate and rising wages will cause voters to stick with President Trump despite the various scandals enveloping his administration. Democrats believe high levels of income inequality and fears of a looming recession will make voters willing to consider a new direction.

John Conyers Jr., who became the longest-serving African American in Congress, co-founded the Congressional Black Caucus and helped create a national holiday in the name of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. but whose career rapidly crumbled at 88 when he resigned amid sexual harassment allegations, died Oct. 27 at his home in Detroit.

 Britain was heading toward its first December election in almost a century after Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s bet on breaking the Brexit deadlock with an early ballot gained support from opposition parties on Tuesday. 

Quebec to put immigrants seeking residency through 'values' test (Reuters)

Quebec will require immigrants seeking permanent residency in the Canadian province to pass a "values" test to ensure they understand its new secularism law, the provincial government said on Wednesday.
