September 22, 2018 (El Cajon) -- The forgotten clothes in your closet could help someone in your community. The El Cajon Library (201 E. Douglas Ave.) is partnering with The Street Store to hold a pop-up clothing store for the homeless on Saturday, September 29th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

With more than 10,000 people experiencing homelessness in San Diego County, clothing donations, especially those made ahead of the colder season, can make a big difference. The El Cajon Library encourages the community to clean out their closets and bring their clothing items to the library where homeless men and women will be able to pick out what they need free of charge. Clothing must be clean, adult-sized and in good condition.

Started in South Africa, The Street Store is an international phenomenon that brings together different parts of the community to assist in providing one of life’s basic necessities. The idea is to encourage community interaction and provide an accepting and safe space for all. Clothing donations are only accepted on the day of the event and all items left over at the end of the day will be donated to charity.
