August 17, 2011 (El Cajon)--The City of El Cajon Teen Coalition kicks off another year of leadership and community service. Candidates must be residents of El Cajon or attend a school within the City limits, in grades 6th through 12th, and be under age 19 as of September 1, 2011. Those interested in becoming coalition members need to complete an application and return it to the Recreation Department at City Hall by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 3rd, 2011.
Engage, educate and empower! These continue to be the goals for the City’s Teen Coalition. Coalition members will learn about sectors working within the community, explore problem solving strategies regarding youth issues, develop leadership skills, and have opportunities to engage in community service. Outside of special events, the Teen Coalition will meet on the third Thursday of each month, 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Renette Recreation Center. A kick off orientation will be a teambuilding event at San Diego State University. The Teen Coalition will create a community service project from May through June of 2012.
The City of El Cajon Teen Coalition will also continue to sponsor the annual “Youth of the Year” award as it further helps put a spotlight on those youth who go above and beyond in serving their community.
