July 28, 2016 (El Cajon) -- A city-sponsored measure is being proposed for the November 2016 general municipal election. If approved by voters, it would amend El Cajon’s City Charter to establish district elections for City Council seats beginning in 2018.

The City will be holding an educational workshop to update and educate local residents on this ballot measure, on requirements of the California Voting Rights Act, and district-based elections.  The meeting will be Thursday, August 4 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.at the Lexington Elementary School multi-purpose auditorium, 1145 Redwood Avenue in El Cajon.

All residents are encouraged to attend in order to become informed on the issue and to ask questions. Translation services will be available for attendees who speak Spanish or Arabic.

Additional workshops will be held in the coming months.
