ESCONDIDO TO HOST 9/11 10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY EVENT

National moment of remembrance at 10 a.m.; bells and sirens to ring nationwide

 

August 26, 2011 (Escondido)--The City of Escondido has partnered with the California Center for the Arts, Escondido to organize a free public event on Sunday, September 11, 2011 in observance of the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The commemoration, which starts at 5 p.m.,  will include a concert, reading of victims' names, and patriotic activities.

 

At 5 p.m., family-friendly, patriotic activities will take place in the Center for the Arts Lyric Court, followed by a 6 p.m. performance of the 45-piece Navy Band Southwest in the Center’s Concert Hall. The concert will be preceded by a special ceremony featuring Escondido Police and Fire personnel. Leading up to these events, there will be a reading of the names of those who died on 9/11 at the Train Depot in Grape Day Park from 1 – 5 p.m.
 

Free concert tickets are available on a first come, first served basis by calling the Center for the Arts box office at (800) 988-4253. The event is generously sponsored by Dr. David Tagge and Dr. Brad Bourcy.
 

The City will also participate in the National Moment of Remembrance, established by unanimous U.S. Senate resolution, to memorialize the 9/11 attacks. At 10 a.m. on September 11, fire, police, churches and businesses are encouraged to ring bells or sirens for one full minute as we cease all regular activity and “stop and remember.”
