

Update July 6, 2025 8 a.m.--The fire is 95% contained, per Cal Fire.
Update July 4, 4:30 p.m. -- All evacuation warnings are lifted and all roads are open. Cal Fire asks that people please drive carefully. Smoke is still visible, but there is no danger to the public at this point, per County Emergency Services.
Update July 3, 8:30 a.m. The #McCainFire has burned 1,352 acres and is 50% contained. Evacuation warnings remain in place for portions of Boulevard as firefighters continue working in rugged terrain, though evacuation orders were lifted.The Red Cross has closed the evacuation center at Golden Acorn.
Update July 2, 3:30 p.m.-- De Anza evacuation order has been lifted. Residents can return home but some nearby areas remain under an evacuation warning; these residents are asked to remain vigilant since the fire is still burning. To see the zones for the evacuation warning, follow this link.
Update July 2, 8:00 a.m.-- I-8 West has reopened. The fire has burned 1,000 acres and is 5% contained.

Update 7:30 p.m. – Cal Fire Captain Mike Cornett told ECM that the fire has potential for 1,500 acres and is currently 903 acres with zero percent containment.; winds have shifted and are blowing northeast. The first is burning east of Tule Lake, north of I-8, and west of DeAnza Springs Resort. It is currently burning parallel to I-8. All of DeAnza Springs Resort has been ordered to evacuate. More evacuation orders and warnings are being prepared for parts of Jacumba as far east as Boulder Park/Desert View Tower, though the downtown Jacumba area is not currently threatened, nor is Pine Valley. Winds could shift however, so be vigilant tonight if near this fire. The #McCainFire was caused by a vehicle fire with an injury, however no firefighters or civilians have been injured by the fire and thus far, no structures have been lost.Over150 firefighters are at the scene. A smoke advisory has been issues for areas east of Boulevard.
Update 5:50 p.m. -- #McCainFire in Boulevard is now 714 acres. Evacuation Orders have been issued for Zones: SDC-2335, SDC-2336, SDC-2337 , SDC-2411 Evacuation Warnings have been issued for Zones: SDC-2487, SDC-2412, SDC-2413 Westbound I-8 west of Carrizo Gorge, all lanes are closed due to the wildfire which began with a vehicle fire.

July 1, 2024 (Jacumba Hot Springs) -- Mandatory evacuations are ordered of De Anza Springs Resort in Jacumba Hot Springs, due to the #McCainFire. The fire started at I-8 east of McCain Valley Rd. in Boulevard and is burning toward the resort. Residents are urged to leave immediately.

The wildfire has burned 100 acres and is growing at a moderate rate of speed. A very large air tanker (VLAT) has been ordered, along with two other air tankers and helicopters.
Golden Acorn Casino has been set up as a temporary evacuation center.
A De Anza Springs resident,Paul Cumming, told ECM that Sheriff's vehicles are driving throught the resort but with his air conditioning on, he did not hear the announcement to evacuate--however his Apple watch buzzed with the notification soon after. If you are in this area, please leave now and call neighbors.
