November 4, 2100 (United States) -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS).

The national test will occur on Wednesday, November 9 at 11 am and will last 30 seconds.

It will be transmitted via television and radio stations.

Similar to local emergency alert system tests, an audio message will interrupt television and radio programming indicating: “This is a test.”

When the test is over, regular programming will resume.
The EAS is a national alert and warning system established to enable the President of the United States to address the public during emergencies. The National Weather Service, state, and local emergency authorities also use parts of the system to issue more localized emergency alerts. A national test will help determine the reliability of the system and its effectiveness in notifying the public of emergencies and potential dangers nationally and regionally.
This event serves as a reminder that everyone should establish an emergency preparedness kit and emergency plan for themselves, their families, communities, and businesses.
