FORGING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE: 2-PART CONFERENCE STARTS NOV. 12-13 IN SAN DIEGO: LT. GOVERNOR GAVIN NEWSOM AMONG SPEAKERS

 Part 2 on March 3-4 to feature Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.


 

November 3, 2011 (San Diego) – UnitedGREEN, a division of the nonprofit Heartland Coalition and sister organization of East County Magazine, will present Forging a Sustainable Future, a two-part conference that aspires to foster alliances between businesses, government and grassroots organizations to build a green future not only for San Diego, but our nation and the world.

 

California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom will keynote the event.

 

 

“We believe that this will be remembered as an unusually dynamic conference, with great presentations, panels, community forums and real-world results,” said Mark Hanson, PhD, executive director of Heartland. UnitedGREEN is initiating extended discussions with community leaders, conference attendees, sponsors and supporters to speed the transition to a sustainable future for humanity. 

 

By sparking collaborations between key public and private entities, as well as the San Diego/Tijuana region’s many cultures, in November UnitedGREEN aims to nurture shared leadership and encourage participants to identify key issues and solutions to sustainability challenges ahead. 

 

Part I of the conference will be held November 12-13 at Irwin Jacobs Qualcomm Hall. Part II will be held March 3-4 at Diego State University, where nationally-renown environmental leader Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. will be the keynote speaker.

 

For Part I, confirmed speakers include Dr. Tony Haymet (UCSD, Scripps Institute of Oceanography, and CleanTech San Diego), Andrew Berg (National Electric Contractors Association), Councilmember Marti Emerald, Councilmember Todd Gloria, Dr. Heather Honea (eco-economics professor), Bill Powers, (ecological engineer and entrepreneur), Jim Bell (ecological urban planner) Dr. Bill Roley (applied ecologist, environmental instructor and consultant and founder of the Permaculture Institute of Southern California), and Britt Cool (San DiegoWaterRecycling.com) .  

 

Invited speakers include Governor Jerry Brown, Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, Congressman John Garamendi,  Senator Dianne Feinstein, Mayor Jerry Sanders, and Congressman Brian Bilbray.  Additional speakers are pending.
