April 26, 2011 (La Mesa) – Berniece Elizabeth Mosely, 92, died yesterday in an accident at 11:27 a.m. yesterday on Broadmoor Place in La Mesa, the San Diego Medical Examiner’s officer reports.
According to La Mesa Police, The vehicle drove into the front yard of a private residence, where the woman was ejected then run over by the Honda. A witness called 911, but death was confirmed immediately at the scene due to obvious trauma.
A community leader and historian contends that the City's proposal to eliminate its recreation department is a lemon--and that residents will be squeezed.

Poison pen letters like the one to Tom, wild statements to media (Channel 10 a couple of days ago, Union-Trib, etc.) to spread inaccurate statements, skewering long-time, skilled, city employees, attempting to divide the council on trumped-up fiscal issues -- all of this is a throwback to the bad old days when we suffered with a rogue councilman, who also touted himself as a financial wizard. The said rogue has long since been discredited, but not before nearly destroying the Senior Center with his budget mismanagement. In other words,history is repeating itself.
April 25, 2011 (Poway) – A Poway woman, 27, was attacked by an unknown assailant and knocked unconscious shortly after midnight on Saturday. According to the San Diego Sheriff's department, the victim was walking in the 12600 block of Metate Lane around 12:30 a.m. when she was assaulted.
After awakening in a nearby field, she made her way to a nearby residence where she was helped by people who called the Sheriff’s Department. The victim was taken to Pomerado Hospital, treated for injuries and examined for a sexual assault.

April 25, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – A fatality accident in La Mesa involving a pedestrian struck by a car has shut down Broadmoor Street between Jericho and Kathy, La Mesa Police has informed East County Magazine. In addition, Calavo Drive at Challenge Blvd. in Spring Valley is shut down due to a tree fallen across the road, the CHP website reports.
Also use caution on Highway 67, where a signal light has been reported out at Willows Road.
In addition, readers who may have spotted smoke late this morning needn't be concerned. A fire in trees and brush in National City put up a large header of smoke, Incident Page Network reports. However Heartland Fire dispatch assures us that the blaze was swiftly doused. While structures were briefly threatened, only some fencing was damaged.

General Manager Mark Weston said the “new reality” reflects recognition that employees need to share in pension contributions and that Helix pay rates and benefits are competitive with other districts.
But some ratepayers argued that the changes do not go far enough.
