That's not to deny the real,

That's not to deny the real, substantial issues facing our town: a massive unfunded pension liability, rising crime and and an increasingly ineffectual city council, but (again) by comparison, these things are minor. Their town, their land, everything they love is on the cusp of being destroyed.

And we think we have problems

And we think we have problems in La Mesa?! Things like this--communities like Boulevard, with all they've been through--put everything in perspective. Nothing like have those in decision making places--government at every level: county, state and federal--back up an (please pardon the expression) take a huge collective dump on the place you call home. God, I feel bad for these folks

Exactly....

La Mesans should be grateful that the biggest issues their council is facing lately are things like whether to approve travel expenses or shutting off parking meters temporarily during the construction to beautify downtown. I really feel sorry for Donna and the rural planners out there. It's not just hearing these projects each month. It's the massive amount of research that needs to be done on each one -- every try to read even a single EIR and compose a detailed response? Imagine having a dozen or more of those! And then all too often, the government agencies and officials turn a blind eye toward the people's legitimate concerns.
