March 23, 2017 (El Cajon) - Tonight, Monte Vista and Granite Hills High girls lacrosse squared off in both schools’ second game of conference play.  Both schools sported winning records, with the Monarchs at a solid 7-2 and the Eagles at 3-2.

The Eagles struck first with two early goals to start the game.  With 17 minutes left, they made it 3-0.  A goal before a timeout counted to make it 4-0 and with one minute left in the first half, the Eagles tallied again to go into halftime up 5-0.

A very different Monte Vista team took the field in the second half.  They finally tallied with a goal right off the bat to make the score 5-1 Granite Hills.  The Monarchs controlled the early second half, limiting the Eagles to just one possession in the first nine minutes and it paid off.  The Eagles led 5-2 after a Monte Vista goal at the 19-minute mark.  The Monarchs kept creeping back; a goal at the 14 and a half minute mark narrowed the deficit to 5-3.  But the lady Eagles prevailed by playing good defense and winning 5-3 and moving to 4-2 on the season.  The Monarchs fall to 7-3.

Granite Hills will stay at home to host the Highlanders of Helix High School at 7:30 p.m.  The Monarchs will travel to all-girls school Our Lady of Peace for an exhibition game on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
