April 7, 2012 (El Cajon) – Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD) and Granite Hills High School representatives celebrated the completion of the school’s new aquatic center with a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 27.  The 40,000 square foot aquatic complex features the first Olympic-size pool on an East County high school campus and will serve as a center for East County community groups, youth aquatics teams, California Interscholastic Federation water polo and swim teams as well as physical education classes.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured special guest San Diego County Supervisor Dianne Jacob who gave remarks alongside Superintendent Ralf Swenson and Granite Hills High School Principal Georgette Torres. Following the ceremony, the Granite Hills High School swim team of approximately 150 students held practice in the new facility.

The facility includes a variety of energy-saving amenities such as pool blankets, thermal solar energy, LED lights, an energy-efficient heater and variable speed pumps to help reduce campus costs. School officials and construction partners reduced spending through a Lease-Leaseback delivery method, which enabled the district to select firms through a qualification-based process that provides flexibility and a guaranteed delivery date.

The San Diego County Neighborhood Reinvestment Program, school fundraising and Proposition U funded the construction of the aquatics facility. The project team included program manager Gafcon, Inc., architect Trittipo Architecture and Planning, and general contractor Sundt Construction.
