November 7, 2017 (La Mesa) -- The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) is continuing its support of ElderHelp of San Diego, a nonprofit health agency that offers social services to more than 7,000 seniors annually. The GHD board recently approved a $45,000 grant for ElderHelp’s Care Coordination, a program that delivers a variety of care management services, including health advocacy, escorted transportation to medical appointments, home safety inspections and repairs.

“Our partnership with the Grossmont Healthcare District is one of our longest and most successful collaborations,” said Deborah Martin, CEO/executive director, ElderHelp of San Diego. “We are so grateful for their support which helps us provide a continuum of care that is tailored to the specific needs of every one of the East Region seniors we serve. We’re deeply thankful for all they do to make life better for the residents they serve.

“We at ElderHelp are finding ourselves at the front lines of an exploding aging senior population,” Martin continued. “We’re helping more than 7,000 seniors a year remain safely and securely in their own homes and communities. Our 450 volunteers donated more than 11,000 hours of free or low-cost services to San Diego seniors. The support from organizations such as Grossmont Healthcare District helps us tremendously in fulfilling our mission.”

Since 1973, ElderHelp has been providing San Diego seniors with personalized services and information that help them remain living in their homes and delay or avert nursing home placement. ElderHelp’s array of programs include case management, homecare assistance and social support services through its Care Coordination program, along with live-in matching services through its HomeShare program. ElderHelp also provides tax assistance, legal help and benefits counseling.

GHD has supported ElderHelp for the past 20 years with community grants exceeding $900,000, ElderHelp officials said.

“We are grateful and proud to partner with ElderHelp,” said Michael Emerson, 2017 GHD board president.  “We applaud their programs and services that help San Diego seniors remain independently with dignity in their own homes.”

The Grossmont Healthcare District is a public agency that supports various health-related community programs and services in the East Region. Formed in 1952 to build and operate Grossmont Hospital, GHD now leases operations to Sharp HealthCare via a public-private partnership, and continues to own the hospital on behalf of local taxpayers. The District is governed by a five-member board of directors, each elected to four-year terms, who represent more than 500,000 people residing within the District's 750 square miles in San Diego's East County.
