New Child Development Center is part of the GUHSD Teen Parent Program

May 25, 2012 (La Mesa) -- Representatives from Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD) and Grossmont High School dedicated the school’s new Child Development Center on Friday, May 18. The 6,193-square-foot center will offer a classroom setting for infant and toddler programs as part of the GUHSD Teen Parent Program.

The Child Development Center features an infant room with an adjacent sleeping space, a toddler room, a small kitchen, laundry area, teacher workspace and a standard classroom. The building offers a small patio, new parking lot and play areas. The new center also has several green features including roof-mounted solar PV panels to meet the energy-efficiency standards of the Collaborative for High Performance Schools.

Friday’s dedication ceremony included remarks from Grossmont Union High School staff and students involved in the program. Attendees also took a tour of the center to observe a classroom setting.

Funded by Proposition U passed by local voters in 2008, the project aligns with GUHSD’s Career Technical Education (CTE) plan, allowing students to prepare for both college and career. The construction team for the project included program manager Gafcon, Inc., construction manager Turner Construction, general contractor Gordon-Prill, and architect and engineer by LPA, Inc.
