September 6, 2015 (Santee)—A shot was fired but no one was seriously injured during a struggle to subdue a suspect, Jennifer Rebecca McKee, in Santee yesterday. Witnesses including two law enforcement officers say McKee tried to run over her boyfriend with a vehicle, then attacked him with a baseball bat and assaulted a law enforcement officer.

A lieutenant from the San Diego Sheriff’s Department and her husband, a sergeant with the National City Police Department, both off duty at the time, saw the vehicle trying to run over a man at 5:31 p.m. in the 10400 block of Cuyamaca Street in Santee.

The officers broadcast what they encountered on their work radio immediately and requested assistance.  A citizen in the area also called 9-1-1 at the same time to report the assault, said Lt. John Maryon with the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit, which investigates all officer-related shootings.

After failed efforts to run her boyfriend over with her vehicle, McKee then attacked him with a baseball bat.

“Fearing for the man's safety, the sergeant made contact with the victim, while the lieutenant identified herself to McKee as law enforcement and pointed a firearm at her, ordering her to the ground,” Lt. Maryon says. “McKee did not comply with the lieutenant's orders and grabbed the lieutenant's gun. A struggled over the gun ensued. One shot was fired from the gun, but at this point it is unknown if the trigger was pulled by McKee or the lieutenant.”

After the shot was fired, the lieutenant was able to regain control of her gun.

The sergeant then came to assist the lieutenant by using a Taser on McKee, which ultimately allowed them to handcuff her and take her in to custody,  Lt Maryon states.

No one was seriously injured during this incident, however McKee was placed under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon, spousal abuse and assault on a peace officer. McKee will be booked into the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee.
