October 7, 2011 (Santee) --On October 22, 2011,  from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Healing Hearts at Edgemoor will have a demonstration and display of artworks. Healing Hearts is an art therapy program that delights and inspires patients who are enrolled.

Come enjoy music by the Cat-illacs, pick up a brush and create “rock art,” purchase art, note cards, t-shirts, and hand-crafted gifts, as well as food and refreshments. Donations will be appreciated. The address of Edgemoor Geriatric Hospital is 9065 Edgemoor Drive, Santee, CA 92071.

Healing Hearts is an art therapy approach, developed by artist/educatorLinda Bounds, whose techniques and insights have benefited thousands of people at dozens of organizations nationwide. The program was successfully piloted in 2007 at Edgemoor, a County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency skilled nursing facility. In an era of limited funds and diminishing budgets, the best way to ensure Healing Hearts at Edgemoor can continue is to make it a self-sustaining, privately funded program. (From http://healingheartsart.wordpress.com/)
Edgemoor patients range in age from 19 – 90:
• Some have progressive neurological diseases like cerebral palsy and Huntington’s.
• Some suffer from traumatic brain injuries and cerebral vascular accidents.
• Some are victims of Alzheimer’s, dementia, AIDs, and other incapacitating illnesses.
• Most Edgemoor patients suffer from the compounded effects of as many as 13 secondary diseases or disabilities, making their care complex, challenging, and extensive.
• Many face 20 – 30 years filled with intense physical, mental, and emotional pain.
