April 21, 2010 (El Cajon)--Just two days before their graduation, fire academy recruits will be demonstrating their firefighting skills for several Heartland Fire Chiefs, family members and for the media, at the Heartland Fire Training Facility, at 1301 North Marshall in El Cajon, from 10-11 a.m.

Among the 24 graduates are recruits for the Cities of El Cajon, La Mesa and Coronado, the San Miguel Fire Protection District, Mt. Laguna Fire Department, and Miramar College open enrollment students.

This Firefighter 1 Academy just completed 14 weeks of training, involving 488-hours of classroom sessions on topics such as firefighter safety, equipment operation, fire control, fire prevention, and more. Manipulative classes also gave recruits the opportunity to practice skills taught in the classroom. Recruits had to pass weekly training evaluations by assigned instructors from the El Cajon, La Mesa, Lakeside and San Miguel Fire Departments.

The Academy graduation will be held on Monday, April 26, 6:00 p.m., at the Ronald Reagan Community Center, located at 195 East Douglas Avenue in El Cajon.
