May 15, 2023 (Santee) – Patricia Louise Adamson, 63,  died May 3 at the Las Colinas Detention Facility.  Homeless in San Diego, she was arrested Feb. 13 by San Diego Police Department on a vandalism charge.

“We extend our sympathies to the Adamson family and those affected by this death. A Sheriff's Family Liaison Officer will support the family as they deal with the loss of a loved one,” a statement from the San Diego County Sheriff’s office indicates.

According to the Sheriff’s department, during a well-being check of the housing module on May 3, a Sheriff's lieutenant noticed that Adamson did not appear to be caring for herself.  Deputies offered her an opportunity to shower while her housing area was cleaned. Deputies and a doctor helped Miss Adamson to the shower area with the assistance of a wheelchair. When they reached the shower area, Miss Adamson began to show signs of medical distress. Life saving measures were immediately administered and paramedics were summoned and responded.

Despite their best efforts, Adamson was pronounced deceased.

The Citizen's Law Enforcement Review Board (CLERB) representative was notified of this incident and responded to the scene.

As is the protocol for all in-custody deaths, the Sheriff's Homicide Unit responded and is conducting an investigation. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner's Office.
