August 17, 2010 (Santee) – A brush fire raced up a slope behind several homes on Strathmore Drive Saturday afternoon, just east of Santee Lakes. Cause of the fire is "suspicious," Santee Fire Division Chief Brett Eldridge told East County Magazine.

At least one area resident attempted to slow the fire with a garden hose.  No homes were damaged, thanks to a rapid response by firefighting units from Santee, Lakeside and El Cajon. A helicopter from the San Diego County Sheriff’s department and an air attack by Cal-Fire also helped douse the blaze, which burned about an acre and a half, according to Eldridge
