October 23, 2010 (Sacred Rocks) -- The inaugural horse camp experience launched October 15-17 at Sacred Rocks Horse Camp, with several participants and many horses visiting for a complementary weekend. “Riding, sitting around the campfire telling tales, and the Saturday night barbeque brought to mind the lifestyle of the old west when time seemed meaningless while folks were enjoying their days,” said Sharon Courmousis, owner of Scared Rocks Reserve and the new Sacred Rocks Horse Camp.

Sacred Rocks Horse Camp is located in East County’s Santa Rosa Mountains, about three miles west of Boulevard and just south of Historic Highway 94. The ancient oaks, fascinating boulder formations, wide open sky, and rolling hills of chaparral offer enjoyable scenery while exploring the countryside between Boulevard and Campo. The 100 acres on the east side of Sacred Rocks Reserve offer many ideal shady campsites and several trails to use. The standard sized large area is intended for clinics and other events in the future.

Cross-country trails are being mapped as discovered and will be shared with campers upon arrival. Campers bring their own feed. Water is supplied. Most horse campers bring their own containment although pens are being planned. Overnight fees are $20 and day fees are $8.

Organized under Sacred Rocks Center for Learning and Arts, a 501(C)(3) not-for-profit, Sacred Rocks Horse Camp is one of the many micro-businesses being established to further the vision of creating a vocational school for preparation for jobs in the green energy and building areas.

As a part of a not-for-profit entity, Sacred Rocks Horse Camp welcomes donations of materials such as corrals and of course, cash contributions. Donations are tax deductible.

Reservations for Sacred Rocks Horse Camp are recommended by calling 619-766-4480, the Sacred Rocks Reserve office. The horse camp is adjacent to a full service 146 site RV park and campground with a pool/spa open May-September, a clubhouse, and games yard. The amenities of the RV Park are offered to horse campers. Sacred Rocks Reserve is a unique place, well worth exploring. Visits may be arranged by calling or driving to 1331 Shasta Way, Boulevard, CA 91905.
