April 16, 2014 (San Diego’s East County) –HBO’s Real Time Host, Bill Maher, has launched a “flip a district” series in which voters are invited to submit videos showing why their representative should be ousted.  His latest target? Congressman Duncan D. Hunter,. Hunter was asked about his opposition to a measure aimed at protecting women against pay discrimination.   When Hunter responded that “there really isn’t gender discrimination,” the audience responded by booing him.  View video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDGjia4VgCA&feature=youtu.be

James Kimber, who is running against Hunter, called Hunter’s remarks on pay inequality “unfortunate.”  Kimber, a Democrat, added, “It goes to show how Mr. Hunter is out of touch with the facts regarding equal pay.  Women hold nearly half of all jobs today, yet earn only 81 cents on the dollar when compared to men.  The Equal Pay Act was signed into law in 1963 and it’s shocking 50 years later we still have not closed that gap, but it’s even more shocking when a member of Congress says there isn’t gender discrimination.  (Ironically, the Paycheck Protection Act was shot down by  the Senate last week on Equal Pay Day. )

Maher also took Hunter to task for his support of tactical nuclear weapons:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQX6hzCKYcg  Hunter insisted that tactical nuclear weapons may be appropriate for use to destroy underground bunkers, to which Maher retorted, “I just think that’s a genie we shouldn’t let out of the bottle.”

Kimber, like Hunter, is a military veteran, but opposes using nuclear weapons as offense when the U.S. has not been attacked.

Maher has pledged to use his influence to “flip a district” through advertising in members’ districts as well as on his television show.
