December 7, 2016 (Alpine) — Sheriff’s homicide and child abuse detectives are investigating the death of an Alpine toddler under suspicious circumstances.

Sheriff’s deputies and paramedics responded to a 911 call reporting an 18-month-old girl was found not breathing, shortly before noon yesterday.  The child was in a motorhome parked at 302 Hunter Lane in Alpine.

Paramedics began CPR but were unable to revive the young child, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Due to injuries on the child’s body, the death is being investigated by authorities. However, no one has been arrested because it is not yet known whether a crime occurred or whether the injuries were related to the child’s death, according to Lieutenant Kenneth Nelson with the Sheriff’s homicide detail.
