Police seek driver of red pickup

January 14, 2011 (San Diego) – A woman, 26, has escaped an assailant who grabbed her in an apparent kidnapping attempt at 2:30 p.m. today.

San Diego Police Sgt. Ray Batrtrick reports that the woman was running near 58th and Trojan Avenue in the El Cerrito neighborhood (View map) which is south of I-8, west of the Rolando/La Mesa neighborhoods and east of Talmadge when she was approached by a white man in his 30s driving an older, faded red pickup truck similar to a Ford Ranger.

He twice tried to talk to her, but she refused and kept running. When she reached 4100 Olympic Place, the driver blocked the sidewalk and got out. The woman ran into the street and the man grabbed her arm forcibly, according to police. She sprayed him with pepper spray and he released her.

The woman ran away and called police. The assailant was last seen driving the truck eastbound on Trojan from 58th Street. San Diego Police Mid-City division is investigating the case on grounds of battery and a possible attempted kidnapping.
