June 11, 2013 (San Diego) – County of San Diego Parks and Recreation has activities at parks throughout East County.  Activities include everything from guided hikes to Snakes ‘N Skins for the younger set.  Following is a list of events at East County parks:

DOS PICOS REGIONAL PARK

FREE SATURDAY PROGRAMS

Every Saturday

Free Saturday programs meet at the Amphitheater at the scheduled time. Programs may change or cancel without notice depending upon the weather and Ranger availability. The Ranger needs to have at least 10 people for each program to begin.

SNAKES ‘N SKINS

1:00 pm – 1:30 pm

Come see and feel creatures living and non-living. Ranger Jon will break out his animal skin collection and introduce some of the office critters too. Free of charge.

CRAFT TIME

2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Remember how fun it was to sit down and make a cool craft? Come make a project you can keep. $1 donation per crafter gratefully accepted.

TEXTURE SCAVENGER HUNT

5:00 pm – 6:30 pm

A Dos Picos favorite that combines crayon rubbings and a no-holds barred scavenger hunt! Get your group together to meet the Ranger and try to find as many of the listed texture-objects as you can before time runs out.

NIGHT HIKE

8:40 pm month of June

The whole world changes at night. The stars come out and the critters start lurking about. Participants will walk in the dark for about an hour on some uneven surfaces and moderate hills. Approximate start times are given. Actual times will be posted in the Ranger’s Office. Bring a flashlight and an adult.

MUSIC AND MOVEMENT MOMMY AND ME CLASS

Fridays 9:15 am - 9:45 am

This “mommy and me” style class is specifically designed to meet the developmental needs of infants and toddlers. Together participants will sing, dance, play instruments, and fun. Parents will learn music activities they can recreate at home. This activity is great for children from 8 months – 4 years old.

PRINCESS AND SUPER HERO CAMP

June 17 - 21 9:15 am – 12:15 pm

Come dressed as your favorite super hero or princess character. Activities include baking healthy desserts, story time, arts and crafts, musical games, outside playground activities, and so much more! The camp is open to children ages 2 ½ - 7 years of age.

OWL DISCOVERY DAY

Saturday, June 29 10:00 am – 11:00 am

Learn about the owls that live around the park.  Find out how the owls’ digestive system works and learn more about their food chain. Let us help you bring to light, how these raptors survive and behave. These activities are designed for children ages 5-12.

PINE VALLEY

BIKE RODEO

Wednesday, June 26  2:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Kids and adults will learn bicycle safety, how to properly fit a bicycle helmet, and instruction on installing car seats for children. The Sheriff SWAT Team will be on site to show their hi-tech vehicle to children. Kids can enjoy riding a short course to learn how to properly operate a bicycle. Bring your bicycle, bike helmets, and related safety equipment. The event is open to all ages and all abilities.
