May 6, 2011 (Alpine) – Viejas Outlet Center will host Alpine’s biggest festival, the 14th annual Sage & Songbirds Festival & Garden Tour on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8.  The theme for this year's festival, which includes live butterfly releases, is "Just Wing It."

A tour of residential gardens with butterfly and songbird-friendly habitats will also be held from May 6-8, with proceeds benefiting CHIRP, a non-profit organization dedicated to preservation and enjoyment of birds, butterflies and other creatures through hands-on and interactive programs and gardens.

Due to the festival’s growing popularity, the free family-friendly event will be held throughout the Viejas Outlets and will feature live butterfly releases at noon both days. In addition, visitors will see displays of live hummingbirds and birds of prey, garden-related vendors, plant sales, and art displays throughout the weekend. Educational programs will teach habitat, gardening and wildlife topics, plus guided tours of the award-winning habitat gardens of Viejas Outlets will be offered.

Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Saturday and Sunday. The festival is free to the public. Located at I-8 and Willows Road in Alpine, Viejas Outlets features 255,000 square feet of shopping space and is home to more than 50 brand name stores and a variety of restaurants. Set on 37 acress, Viejas Outlets provides shoppers with a unique peaceful ambiance that draws upon the natural beauty of the surrounding environment, with meandering paths of lush landscaping and plant life, natural water features and massive rock formations. For more information on Viejas Outlets, visit www.shopviejas.com or call 619-659-2070.

CHIRP residential garden tours will feature bird-and-butterfly friendly gardens as well as a raptor rehabilitation facility for hawks, owls and eagles.  Tours also include a habitat  plant tour especially for garden tourists.  Tickets for the CHIRP garden tours are $15; CHIRP tours run 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 6-8.
