June 13, 2015 (El Cajon)--Once again, the City of El Cajon plans to build a playground in a day.  Volunteers are needed to help with the assembly of a one-of-a-kind, customized playground at Bill Beck Park on June 18 and June 20.  The existing playground at Bill Beck Park was over 50 years-old.  So, a new playground is planned to provide youths with a better area to play and have fun.  Some of the volunteers who have registered so far include off-duty Heartland Fire & Rescue Firefighters and El Cajon Police officers, along with other City personnel and members of local civic groups.

The City of El Cajon, Foresters, Stoney’s Kids, Kiwanis Club of El Cajon Valley and KaBOOM! (a national non-profit organization that has built more than 3,000 playgrounds) have designed a customized playground for Bill Beck Park, located at 543 N. Pierce Street. The playground, funded primarily by Foresters, was created from personal drawings and local community members’ input collected during a recent special design day back in April. The input came from all ages, including children and seniors.

The playground "building days" will take place on June 18 and June 20. Bill Beck Park is located at 543 N. Pierce Street in El Cajon. If you would like to give back to your community, we are looking for those highly skilled in the area of construction for the June 18 prep day, and again for the June 20 build day.  Hours will be from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on June 18, and 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on June 20. If you can help, please call (619) 873-1641. Volunteers must pre-register.  150 volunteers are needed, so please sign up!
