Story, photos and video by Billy Ortiz (Lakeside)

February 12, 2017 (Lakeside) -- The Lakeside Optimists are a great group helping out our community.  Yesterday they were at Lake Jennings in Lakeside for the annual "Kids Day", where all kids under 10 were allowed to fish for free at Lake Jennings.

The lake was stocked with 300 Idaho Trout into a 20x20 pen. "Fish in a barrel" is what Kira Haley-Haley, the Lake Jennings Recreation Manager, calls it as kids pulled out a trophy trout one after another. At least 350 kids participated !

Thanks, D.J. Board and the Optimist of Lakeside, CA. Y'all are awesome!  Speaking of awesome, Lake Jennings really knows how to make kids happy.  Their wasn't a single sad kid face at the lake, especially when they were reeling in a Lunker Trout, many for the first time, in the rain, oh, and Kira was serving up BBQ hot dogs!

I'm not sure what that little boy said at the end of the video but it sounded like a great story! The Optimists also put on a free "14th Annual Fishing Derby and Family Fun Day" at Lindo Lake Park.  This year its on June 3rd, 2017; for more info contact the Lakeside Optimisst at http://www.bullsonlyrodeo.com/lakesideoptimistclub.html.  Lake Jennings also hosts a “Spring Carnival” in March, for info contact Lake Jennings at http://www.lakejennings.org/news-events/  or follow them on FB https://www.facebook.com/LakeJennings/
