November 6, 2017 (El Cajon) - The expansion San Diego Kings dropped their American Basketball Association home opener Saturday (Nov. 4), falling to Stockton's Team Trouble 118-105. More than 500 spectators attended the contest at Grossmont College.
"Even though we lost, the atmosphere was tremendous and everyone seemed to have a good time," said Kings owner Abe Muheize, the former all-state football standout from El Cajon Valley High. "We have been doing many events in the community and the team was rewarded with a nice turnout of fans."
Several prospects from the San Diego area performed well in the debut.
James Hancock, a forward out of Mission Bay High, tallied a team-high 16 points. In addition, Victor Dean, who once captured a state CIF crown at Lincoln High, added 12 points.
The Kings also received 12 points from guard Braxton Smith of Murrieta.
The next Kings home game is Saturday, Nov. 18, hosting the cross-town rival San Diego Surf (1-6), also at the G-House.
