December 2008 (El Cajon) — Kruger Brothers will perform an exclusive concert at Cuyamaca College in El Cajon on Friday, December 5 at 7:30 p.m.

Winner of the National Endowment for the Arts Artistic Excellence Award for their "Music from the Spring: A Romantic Serenade for Banjo, Guitar, Bass & Orchestra", the Kruger Brothers' music combines elements of bluegrass, classical, country and European folk.

"They have a national reputation and we are thrilled to host them," Pat Setzer, chairperson of the performing arts department at Cuyamaca College told East County Magazine.

"Once you've heard them, you want to hear them again.  Their music is very touching and moving, and at the same time exciting," said Philip Zanon, president of Old Time Music, record company and agent for the Kruger Brothers.  At the Cuyamaca College concert, the group will perform excerpts from Music from the Spring as well as selections from their new album, The Suite.

Prior to the evening concert, the trio will hold a workshop with students in the college's music industry program to discuss how they arrange and produce their music, as well as tips for having a career in the music industry in the 21st century.  The workshop is open to the public.  For details on the workshop, contact Chuck Walker at (619)660-4288.  For information on Cuyamaca College's performing arts department programs, see www.cuyamaca.edu/performingarts.

Swiss-born Jens and Uwe Kruger performed in Europe for over 20 years before teaming up with Joel Landsberg to form the Kruger Brothers trio.  Playing banjo, guitar and bass respectively, the trio moved to the United States to bring their unique music to American audiences.  Following a debut performance of Music from the Spring excerpts with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra in Maine, a collaboration was formed to bring performances of what has been described as new American music to schools and community settings across the nation.

The Krugers have been described by Bluegrass Magazine as "the classiest of acts as can be found on today's bluegrass and acoustic scene." "Every once in a while, a banjo player comes along who challenges the boundaries of what you believe the instrument is capable of," Banjo Newsletter said of Jens Kruger.

The concert will be held in the Cuyamaca College Communication Arts Theatre, 900 Rancho San Diego, El Cajon, CA 92019.  The event is presented by the Cuyamaca College of Performing Arts and Double Time Music in partnership with the Deering Banjo Company. Jens Kruger is head of research and development for Deering, the world-renown banjo making company based in Spring Valley.

Tickets for the event cost $32 for a single ticket, or $28 per ticket if two tickets are purchased together.  To order tickets, visit www.doubletimemusic.com(see flyer).
