December 25, 2009 (San Diego) – Now that the 12 days of Christmas and the eight days of Hanukkah are over, if you're ready for some more celebrations, check out the Kwanzaa activities which begin tomorrow at the Malcolm X Library in East San Diego, followed by more events Sunday at the World Beat Center in Balboa Park and on Monday at the Black Contractors Association in San Diego. In addition, the Pan-African Association is holding a food drive from December 26-January 2.

 

All events are free, open to the public and children are welcome.

COMMUNITY UMOJA DAY KWANZAA ACTIVITIES

Saturday, December 26, 2009 4:30-8 p.m.
Malcolm X Library, 5148 Market St., San Diego
 

“Unity in Global African Diversity” is the theme of this event, which features the annual lighting, a traditional annual program, plus a feature showing of the documentary film, “The Black Candle.” This event also features a silent auction, arts and crafts, thoughtful dialogue, laughter, music, dance and words of inspiration.


COMMUNITY KUJICHAGULIA DAY KWANZAA AFRICAN BLESSING & NAMING CEREMONY
 

Sunday, December 27, 2009 1-4 p.m.
World Beat Center, 2100 Park Blvd. San Diego

“Defining My Cultural Self” is the theme for this event which focuses on self-determination.

 

COMMUNITY JIMA KWANZAA SOCIAL MIXER & FOOD DRIVE
 

Monday, December 28, 2009
Black Contractors Association Inc., 6125 Imperial Ave., San Diego
 

“Employing and Training People” is the focus of this event. Participants are encouraged to bring businesses cards and networking information, as well as a dry, boxed or canned food item.

 

COMMUNITY UJIMA FOOD DRIVE

The Pan-American Associations of America presents its third annual drive focused on “feeding our sisters and brothers”. Food donations may be dropped off at the following locations:
