LA MESA ANNOUNCES ENTERTAINMENT AND SPEAKER FOR MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL JANUARY 22

January 20, 2011 (La Mesa)—La Mesa kicks off its centennial year with its 16th annual Multicultural Festival on Sunday, January 22 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. 
 
The event honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and also celebrates East County’s multicultural heritage. This year's entertainment includes Ballet Folklorico, Centro Cultural de la Raza; The Helix Charter High School Bagpipe Band, and Sifu Dwight Love, a Chinese Martial Arts Group.

 
Dr. Shirley Weber, Professor and Department Chair of Africana Studies, San Diego State University, will serve as guest speaker.

The Human Relations Award of Excellence will also be presented to local middle school students who model attributes that help foster mutual esteem, justice and equity, and ensure the dignity and integrity of every individual on a consistent basis and in a variety of settings

The event will be held in the La Mesa Community Center at 4975 Memorial Drive, La Mesa.

Admission to the event is free. Refreshments will be available after the program. 
 
Sponsors include the La Mesa Human Relations Advisory Commission, Barona Band of Mission Indians, Sycuan Band of Kumeyaay Nation, Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians, Drew Ford, EDCO, Grossmont Hosspital, and Virginia Napierskie.
