July 24, 2023 (La Mesa) – The La Mesa Village Association (LMVA) announces that September marks the 30th Anniversary of the La Mesa Village Farmers Market (LMVFM) in downtown La Mesa, and we are inviting the community to help us celebrate.

To celebrate 30 years, the La Mesa Village Farmers Market will host weekly giveaways starting on September 1, 2023. Weekly prizes include: $50 in LMVFM “Market Bucks” to be given away on the LMVFM Instagram page (@officiallamesafarmersmarket); 30th Anniversary canvas shopping bags will be given out by different vendors each week; free 30th Anniversary stickers available at the LMVFM information booth; and a surprise vendor-filled 30th Anniversary shopping bag to be given away on the LMVFM Instagram page.

The community and our market vendors have been an integral part of the ongoing success of the La Mesa Village Farmers Market for the past 30 years. It all began in September 1993 when Suzanne and Mark Bendixen opened the very first La Mesa Farmers Market located in the Allison Ave. parking lot with approximately 20 vendors. As their market grew, they moved it to the Civic Center parking lot in 2003 where it remained until 2018.

In 2018, the LMVA took over the market and moved it to the heart of the Village along La Mesa Blvd. where it provided the local community a unique and vibrant place to gather while also giving local businesses valuable exposure. After enduring the COVID pandemic, the LMVA partnered with a new management team, Shane Ray and Robyn Guy, in order to re-invigorate the market and bring it back to its once popular status.

Over the past year, Shane and Robyn have transformed the La Mesa Village Farmers Market into a thriving outdoor grocery store consisting of locally grown produce, flowers, nuts, locally raised meats, eggs, honey, homemade grocery items, prepared foods, and handmade gifts. Each week, there are over 80 vendors to shop from, a dedicated food court, two dining areas and live music

“Our partnership with Shane and Robyn has been a great endeavor. Together, we have created what I believe to be the best Farmers Market in San Diego County. Just look at the number of shoppers, their smiling faces, and the positive energy you can feel throughout the market!” exclaims Michelle Huey, LMVA Board of Director member and Farmers Market Committee Chair.

“We are so happy to offer the La Mesa community such a renovated and vibrant market place, with newly added vendors, a beautiful Village setting and free parking. We are truly your one stop shop to enjoy a true Farm-to-Table experience,“ adds Shane Ray, Market Manager La Mesa Village Farmers Market.

The La Mesa Village Farmers Market is open every Friday from 3 - 7:30 p.m. (May 1 - September 30) and 3 - 7 p.m. (October 1 - April 30). It is located on La Mesa Blvd. between 4th St. and Palm Ave. Free parking is available at the Civic Center parking lot located at Allison Ave. and Date St. For more information about the weekly market, visit www.lamesavillageassociation.org.
