June 5, 2009 (San Diego) – The San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council is offering free job training for returning service men and women. The program is funded by the State of California Employment Development Department.

In addition to offering job training for returning veterans, the Labor Council has been airing ads on local radio stations (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKmlcRK-4gI&feature=player_embedded) to promote its “Fair Shake for Vets” campaign. The ads call on Senator Diane Feinstein to vote for the Employee Free Choice Act, which would enable veterans and coworkers to more easily form unions.

The Labor Council contends that the bill is needed to assure good wages and benefits for military members who served our country. The measure is opposed by employer groups and business interests.
