August 11, 2018 (Santee) - A 52-year-old female inmate at Los Colinas Detention and Re-Entry Facility in Santee died in a local hospital, where she had been receiving treatment for the past six weeks.

The inmate, whose name has not yet been released pending notification of family, had been in custody since January on charges including murder, manslaughter and domestic violence.

The Sheriff’s homicide unit is investigating the death as it does in all in-custody deaths, but this does not indicate foul play or suspicious circumstances, according to Lt. Rich Williams. The Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death.

The woman went into medical distress at 3:45 a.m. and despite lifesaving efforts by hospital medical staff, was pronounced dead at 4:01 a.m.
