February 5, 2010 (San Diego’s East County)--People with dogs often struggle to find the time to exercise themselves and their dogs. However, at the newly expanded Leash Your Fitness (LYF) boot camp classes for humans and dogs, pet owners can accomplish exercise for both--all at one time.

The classes, which are currently taught in Carmel Valley, Coronado and Mission Bay, are being expanded starting Feb. 1 to East County at Lindo Lakes in Lakeside on Mondays and Thursdays at 9 a.m.

“Pet owners hate looking at their dog’s sad eyes when they leave to go to the gym,” said Dawn Celapino, president, Leash Your Fitness. “We’ve designed Leash Your Fitness classes to get in your dog’s walk, your work out, and to mentally stimulate your dog and really tire him out.”

Other classes are taught at Mission Bay near the Fiesta Island Bridge playground on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m.; at Markim Pet Resort in Carmel Valley on Sundays at 9 a.m., which has been ongoing since Jan. 2009; Carmel Valley Recreation Center and Torrey Highlands Park on Tuesday and Thursday at 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. respectively, and on Coronado at Tidelands Park on Mondays and Fridays at 9 a.m.

Each one-hour class incorporates cardio, strength, balance, core, agility, and dog obedience. All classes are taught by certified personal trainers or group exercise professionals. The instructors are coached by dog training experts to help students better understand their dogs’ behavioral obedience.

“We are the only boot camp class in the county that lets you bring your dog with you,” said Celapino. “We love people that are new to fitness or exercise novices. In fact, people that don?t like exercise usually love our classes because their dog takes their mind off the exercise part.”

Celapino added that dog owners of all fitness levels are encourage to try their first class out for free. For more information or to register for classes, visit http://leashyourfitness.com/classes.htm.

Leash Your Fitness also does monthly events, like hikes, dog-a yoga, surfing, kayaking and social events--all for humans and dogs. Dogs of all sizes and obedience are welcomed to classes and special events. Dogs must have up-to-date shots.
