July 25, 2017 (Lemon Grove) -- Lemon Grove became California's 414th city on July 1, 1977. We're 40!  Our City has planned festivities for every council meeting from Aug. 1, 2017 to June 19, 2018. After that, we have to settle down and just be 41, so don't miss this.

On Aug. 1 at 6 p.m., be at the Community Center, 3146 School Lane, for the kickoff. On hand to speak will be two of the five original city council members, Dale Bailey and Jack Doherty, along with relatives of the 1977 cohort,  those who labored to bring about the birth of the new city, a display of historical photographs from the Lemon Grove Historical Society, AND, sources tell us, yummy edibles from the Lemon Grove Bakery.

Special treat that involves YOU: The first of many videos of the "History Minute" will be screened, featuring local residents with vivid memories from the past 40 years of cityhood. What are your memories--the funny, the sad, the sublime, the Main Street, USA, anecdotes that struck you as unique to Lemon Grove. Please make your story a literal minute and share it soonest.

You're also urged to send your memories to be posted on the City's website and saved for posterity. Got photos of you (or someone) in front of, or on, The Big Lemon? Send 'em! (mevans@lemongrove.ca.gov)

Along the way there will be more events TBA (like the 40th year of your favorite "History Alive" series, launching in September with RCP Block & Brick, a hometown business if ever there was one).

Happy Birthday, Lemon Grove!
