June 28, 2018 (San Diego) - The Adaptive Sports and Recreation Association (www.adaptivesportsandrec.org) announces their 32nd annual Junior Adaptive Sports Camp, presented by Luna Grill.  The camp will take place July 16-20, 2018, in San Diego, California.  This unique summer camp is an opportunity for kids ages 4-18 with physical impairments such as spina bifida, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and spinal cord injuries to participate in approximately 15 different sport rotations over 5 days.  Founded and headquartered in San Diego, leading fast casual Mediterranean operator Luna Grill (www.lunagrill.com) is proud to be the title sponsor of the camp’s 32nd season.

At the Junior Adaptive Sports Camp, athletes work with committed volunteers and sports instructors who share a passion for adaptive sports, while learning the fundamentals of activities such as wheelchair basketball, tennis, archery, swimming, handcycling, water tubing, rugby, and more.  Grouped by age and ability, athletes develop important skills to help them stay active and healthy, while simultaneously developing positive self-esteem, leadership, independence, and establishing a desire for lifelong activity.  This transformative experience for kids and their families takes place in a positive, loving and fun atmosphere, opening campers up to a whole new world of possibilities.

A nonprofit organization, the Adaptive Sports and Recreation Association’s mission is to provide sports and recreational activities for children, adults, and veterans with physical disabilities to ensure opportunities equal to their able-bodied peers.  The Junior Adaptive Sports Camp is one of many programs they provide.

“We are looking forward to another great season of our Junior Adaptive Sports Camp,” said Burt Grossman, Executive Director of the Adaptive Sports and Recreation Association.  “Every year, it is inspiring to see how much the camp positively affects our campers, their families, and our volunteers.  It is an honor to work with Luna Grill, another family-focused San Diego company, to present our 32nd year of this life-changing camp.”

After several years of involvement with the Adaptive Sports and Recreation Association, Luna Grill is proud to be the camp’s title sponsor for the first time this year.  In addition, Luna Grill will facilitate in-restaurant fundraising at their 15 San Diego County locations and will cater a celebratory lunch for the campers and volunteers on the last day of camp.  Founded in 2004 in San Diego by Sean and Maria Pourteymour, Luna Grill offers wholesome Mediterranean fare that the whole family can enjoy, including signature kabob plates, gourmet salads, fresh appetizers, including hummus and falafel, wraps and desserts.

“As a Luna Grill family, it is important to us to support our community and give back whenever we can,” said Co-Founder and Chief Cuisine Officer Maria Pourteymour.  “The Adaptive Sports and Recreation Association is a great local nonprofit that we’ve been involved with for a few years, and we are so happy to have the opportunity to sponsor their camp this summer.  We look forward to celebrating the achievements of all the campers at our big celebration lunch on the last day.”

The camp will take place July 16-20, 2018, at Crown Point Park and Miramar College in San Diego, California.  Volunteers are ages 15 and older and come from various backgrounds.  They include students, athletes, teachers, physical and occupational therapists, nurses, social workers, and retirees.  To learn more about the camp or to sign up to volunteer, visit www.asrasportscamp.org.   # # #   About Adaptive Sports and Recreation Association: The Adaptive Sports and Recreation Association is a local nonprofit organization with a mission to provide sports and recreational activities for children, adults, and veterans with physical disabilities to ensure opportunities equal to their able-bodied peers.
