MAN ARRESTED FOR MURDERING HIS MOTHER IN BORREGO SPRINGS

Update November 21, 2023: The victim has been identified as Leona Guevara, 63.

November 19, 2023 (Borrego Springs) – Jacob Guevara, 41, is under arrest for the murder of his mother.

The victim’s daughter had requested a welfare check on her mother, 63, due to living conditions in  her residence, according to the Lieutenant Joseph Jarjura with the San Diego County Sheriff’s department.

“Upon arrival, the deputy was told by the family member that she saw blood in the house and her mother was not home. The family member stated three people were in the home, including her brother,” Lt. Janjura says.

“The deputy searched the home and found what appeared to be the deceased mother. She had apparent stab wounds to her body,” Lt. Janjura adds. The Fire Department pronounced victim deceased at 3:15 p.m.

Her name is not being released at this time pending a positive identification from the Medical Examiner's Office.

The deputy detained all the individuals in the home. Homicide detectives completed a search warrant for the residence and conducted an investigation. Jacob Guevara was arrested for murder and  booked into the Vista Detention Facility.

The circumstances of the crime are still under investigation.
