May 5, 2017 (Spring Valley) - A Spring Valley man was taken to the hospital after being shot while sitting in his car that was parked on Sweetwater Road, near Ildica Street.

Authorities received reports of 11 gunshots in the area of Sweetwater Road and Troy Street, near Mount Miguel High School, last night around 11:20 p.m.

The victim, identified as Maurice Carter, was shot three times.  Authorities say he managed to get out of the car, but that the car rolled and hit him and crashed into a pole at the intersection of Sweetwater Road and Ildica Street.

Carter was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital and is expected to survive.  He claimed he does not know the person who shot him, but says he possibly saw the suspect at a marijuana dispensary on Troy Street.
