December 29, 2018 (Santee) – Warren Morris, 51, has been identified by the County Medical Examiner’s office as the man found by Sheriff’s deputies lying on a sidewalk near Walmart in Santee on the afternoon of December 23rd.

According to Lt. Rich Williams, the man was lying on the sidewalk and had a bottle of alcohol in his possession. When the deputy spoke to Morris, he reportedly sat up but appeared to be too intoxicated to care for himself. He was arrested for public intoxication and placed in the back of a patrol car.

Moments later, deputies noticed the man’s breathing was labored and called for an ambulance. Morris stopped breathing and deputies administered CPR until medics arrived and took over.

Morris was taken to a hospital by ambulance, but despite further lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at 5:11 p.m.

The Sheriff’s homicide unit is investigating and an autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death.
