April 25, 2012 (Santee) – UNICO San Diego will host its annual charity golf tournament to raise funds for the Brian Piccolo scholarship award on May 3 at Carlton Oaks Country Club, 9200 Inwood Drive, Santee.  The tournament culminates with the presentation of the award to various San Diego High School seniors during June.

Scholarship recipients are interviewed and judged based on their academic and athletic excellence.  Two or more scholarships are awarded each year.

Brian Piccolo was a man known for his courage and inspiration to others and his legacy and spirit live on through the good works of UNICO San Diego, a non-profit organization. “The tournament is all about good sportsmanship and teamwork. The same values Brian Piccolo believed in,” says Jim DeSpenza, who has served as golf chairman for the past 6 years. “College students will become tomorrow’s leaders.” Jim, a Poway resident, says “The scholarship gives students a leg up toward their future.”

Tickets for the event are $170 for golfers, which include green fees, cart, lunch, awards, raffle and an Italian buffet dinner.  Check-in is at 11:00 a.m. and the shotgun start will be at 12:00 p.m.  Tickets may be purchased at http://unicosandiego.org/golftournament/
