September 1, 2015 (Descanso)—A series of events are planned to honor the memory of famed saddle maker Garry McClintock including a memorial ride and barbecue on September 20th, as well as a church service and reception September 26th.

Below are details provided by the Gary McClintock Memorial Committee:

The plan has been finalized for the memorials for Garry McClintock.  There will be three gatherings- a church service, a reception the same day at Garry’s shop, and a memorial ride and BBQ.  The church service for Garry will be held at the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in Alpine on Saturday, September 26th at 10 AM.  The address of the hall is 3408 East Victoria Drive and the telephone number is (619)445-1718. The reception at the shop will be from 2 to 5 at McClintock's Saddle Shop at 25077 Viejas Blvd. in Descanso.  The phone number for the shop is (619)445-3946. Dessert will be provided at the reception but those wishing to bring a dessert are welcome to.

The memorial ride and BBQ will be held Sunday September 20th at Rancho Corta Madera near Pine Valley, Ca. This is a 5,000+ acre pristine historic private ranch with extremely limited access- few people ever get to see this ranch, much less ride there. But it was always special to Garry, and the owners have graciously offered us the opportunity to put on this ride there. In addition to giving us a chance to honor Garry, this will provide a rare opportunity for us to ride some of the prettiest country around.

The cost for the ride will be $30 per person, with a catered dinner provided.  The ride will 2-3 hours through easy to moderate terrain and will be led by ranch foreman Rob Paulin. The ride will head out at 11 am sharp, with the dinner following at 4 pm. The and dinner ride will happen rain or shine.

Due to parking and area constraints, entry into the ranch and the dinner will be for the participants of the ride only, with a very few exceptions for those who will be working at the event.  The event will be limited to forty rigs (vehicles with trailers) or seventy riders, whichever number we reach first.  We are asking for the riders to please share trailers as much as possible to make parking everybody easier. Workers will be at the ranch entrance gate to allow riders with reservations and staff to enter. If you have not received written or email confirmation of your registration from the memorial committee, please do not come to the event.  You will be turned away at the gate.

Please allow forty five minutes of travel time from the Pine Valley offramp of the 8 freeway through the ranch to the staging area. (Directions will be sent with your reservation confirmation.) The ranch road is paved but narrow and the route will be well marked. Please drive safely and show respect for the ranch owners by not stopping enroute or disturbing any of the residences. Due to the danger of wildfires this will be a non-smoking event.

Of course, before, during, and after the dinner we'll all gather together to honor Garry and everybody will get an opportunity to tell their stories about him and share their love for one of the finest people I've ever had the honor to know.  And if you have any photos of Garry, please bring them with you and we'll put them up on a board for all to see.

We expect this ride to fill up fast and we heartily recommend that you reserve your spot by forwarding your reservation and payment as soon as possible. All reservations will be placed when your payment is received by us. Payments or donations can be made online in one of two ways- to Eventbrite or to Pay Pal.  If you use Eventbrite, the funds should be sent to adam1149@me.com, with the password being twobits1149. If you choose to use Pay Pal and currently have a Pay Pal account, send your payment to Shawn Doblado at adam1149@me.com.  If you do not have a Pay Pal account, forward your email address to Shawn with a note explaining your intent and he will approve your access.

If you choose not to use online payment, payments by personal check or cashier’s check should be made out to and sent to:

Martin Jorgensen

1124 Third Street

Ramona, Ca. 92065

(619)307-0276

When you place your reservation please let us know how many of you will be sharing a vehicle/trailer.

Be advised that payments made electronically will process faster (and the reservation will be in place faster) due to the lack of waiting on mail delivery.

We are also hoping to set up days and times where people will be able to go to a location in Descanso and pay in person.

Donations for this event, from both individuals and organizations, are welcome and encouraged and should be sent to the same electronic and mail contacts listed above.  Please make it clear if any funds sent are intended to reserve a spot for the ride/dinner or are a donation.

Any notes or cards should be forwarded to the McClintock family through the shop address:  McClintock Saddle Works, 25077 Viejas Blvd., Descanso, Ca. 91916.

We are asking that all reservations be received by us no later than September 15th, 2015.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you there.
