MOVIE GOER ROBBED AT GROSSMONT CENTER CINEMA

June 20, 2012 (La Mesa) – Tonight at 10:16 p.m.., La Mesa Police Officers responded to a report of a robbery. The victim, 22, told officers he was robbed while buying a movie ticket at the Grossmont Theaters in Grossmont Shopping Center. 

The suspect walked up behind the victim and demanded that he hand over his shoulder bag. The victim told the suspect there was nothing of value in his bag. The suspect pulled the bag from the victim’s shoulder and ran toward the east parking lot.

The victim followed the suspect to retrieve his property. When the suspect realized there was nothing of value in the victim’s bag, he threw it on the ground. When the victim walked over to retrieve his shoulder bag, the suspect saw that the victim was holding a twenty dollar bill in his hand.

The suspect reached into his sweatshirt pocket (simulating a handgun) and told the victim to hand over his money or he would shoot him. The victim threw the twenty dollar bill at the suspect. The suspect picked up the money and walked away north through the parking lot toward Center Drive.

The victim was not injured during the robbery and the suspect was not found.

Police describe the suspect as in his late 20s to early 30s, black, clean shaven with a bald head. He is 6’2” and weighs 250 pounds. He was wearing a dark blue or black hooded sweatshirt with a white logo on the front and black shorts.
