February 15, 2014 (Mt. Helix)—The Mt. Helix Academy in la Mesa, which has students from kindergarten through ninth grade, takes pride in “happy kids who love to learn,” says Tracey Singer, marketing coordinator. So Singer wrote and directed a music video starring kids at the school “to show what a fun place we have,” he said. “To my knowledge we are the only school in San Diego, and probably the nation, that is marketing itself with original music videos.”

Though not a performing arts school, the facility has a “surprising amount of talent here for school of under 200 students.  You can see for yourself,” concluded Singer, who has four children of his own attending the school and appearing in the music video.

Mt. Helix Academy is a private, nonsectarian school where children are encouraged to soar academically in a nurturing environment.  Class sizes are small, with a nine to one student to teacher ratio in math, reading and spelling, allowing teachers to evaluate students individually and assure that students are challenged. The result is kindergarteners who are strong readers and many fifth graders already learning Algebra I, as well as junior high students prepared for high school and eventual success in college, according to Singer.

“The happy, family-like environment at Mt. Helix Academy is evident from the time a person first walks through the doors. First-time observers often comment with awe about how happy and focused the kids are and about how much both students and teachers clearly enjoy what they are doing,” Singer concludes.
