February 4, 2013 (San Diego) – The Friends of Taka Sumi-e Art Society will exhibit traditional Japanese-style brush paintings, called sumi-e, on February 17 at Mission Trails Regional Park, 1 Fr. Junipero Serra Drive, San Diego from 1 to 4 p.m. as part of the Mission Trails Regional Park concert series featuring the Japanese bamboo flute. The art show features the works of the members of the art- based society, Friends of Taka Sumi-e dedicated to studying and sharing the art of sumi-e brush painting.
The concert features the soothing and haunting sounds of the shakuhachi, or Japanese bamboo flute, played by Mary Lu Brandwein. The sound of the flute, used by Zen monks for meditation, lends itself to inner reflection and peace, according to Brandwein. The concert will begin at 3 p.m.
The free show will be held in meeting rooms adjacent to the Visitor Center Gallery at Mission Trails Regional Park. For more information visit www.mtrp.org.
