East County News Service
January 30, 2016 (Washington D.C.) – This week, the White House Task Force on New Americans (Task Force) launched the White House Regional Convenings on New Americans. This initiative, aimed at strengthening and supporting local immigrant and refugee integration efforts, is part of a multi-city tour that will run over the course of the next several months.
Mayor Eric Garcetti hosted the inaugural White House Regional Convening in Los Angeles, which included local leaders from multiple sectors and federal agencies. For more information, read this blog authored by Task Force Co-Chairs, Cecilia Muñoz and Leon Rodriguez and visit the White House Task Force on New Americans website.
The site lists 48 participants in 26 states, but oddly neither San Diego City nor County is included, despite the fact that San Diego recently surpassed Los Angeles and New York as taking in more refugees than any county in America and also has many immigrants other than refugees, including large populations from Mexico, South and Central America, the Middle East and Africa.
