August 2, 2016 (San Diego) - The San Diego State women’s golf team will play 10 tournaments across five states during the 2016-17 campaign as sixth-year head coach Leslie Spalding unveiled the Aztecs’ highly anticipated schedule on Tuesday.

SDSU hits the fairways for its fall opener next month when its makes its 13th consecutive appearance in the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, Sept. 12-13, at UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M.

Two weeks later, the Aztecs continue their swing through the Mountain time zone looking to defend their team title at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, Sept. 26-28, in Wolcott, Colo. SDSU cruised to a decisive 20-shot victory at the same event year ago, posting a collective 6-under-par 858 as all five starters placed among the individual top 20.

Following another two-week hiatus, the Scarlet and Black jumps back into action when it travels to the Bay Area for the prestigious three-day Stanford Invitational hosted by Condoleezza Rice, Oct. 14-16. The Aztecs played at historic Stanford Golf Course last spring, recording a 12th-place team finish in NCAA regional competition.

SDSU will then wrap up its fall slate when it ventures to the Silver State for the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, Oct. 23-25, at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev. The Aztecs have fared well at the aforementioned tournament in recent years, capturing team titles in 2013 and 2014, followed by a third-place standing last season.

After a three-and-a-half month break, SDSU commences its 2017 spring schedule when it makes the short drive north for the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, Feb. 12-14, in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. Ohio State will serve as host to the 22nd annual event, which will be contested at Palos Verdes Golf Club.

The Aztecs will remain in the Golden State for their next three meets, including a stop at the eighth annual Bruin Wave Invitational, Feb. 27-28, in San Luis Obispo, Calif. SDSU has appeared in all seven previous editions of the joint UCLA and Pepperdine tournament, which will be conducted along the Central Coast for the second straight season after a four-year run at El Caballero Country Club in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles.

The Aztecs resume their busy stretch the following week when they make a return trip to northern California for the third installment of the Meadow Club Intercollegiate, March 6-7, in Marin County across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco.

The Scarlet and Black will have the ensuing two weeks off to gear up for its lone home tournament of the season, the aptly named SDSU March Mayhem, set for March 20-22 at The Farms Golf Club in nearby Rancho Santa Fe. Christened in 2013, the event will feature a match-play format for the third year in a row. Last season, the Aztecs finished fifth with a 3-1 record in a stacked field that featured 10 schools ranked among the top 40 nationally.

Spalding’s troops will have one last tune-up before the conference tournament when they head east for the PING/ASU Invitational, April 7-9, in Tempe, Ariz. SDSU has played Karsten Golf Course just twice in the last five years, traveling to the desert in 2012 and 2015.

For the fifth consecutive season, the Mountain West Championship will be held at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Last year, SDSU rallied late, but still finished second after taking home the crown in 2015. Individually, Mila Chaves (Asuncion, Paraguay) finished third on the leaderboard, while Sirene Blair (South Jordan, Utah) took fifth.

The Aztecs will be aiming for their seventh postseason bid as a team in the last eight years when the NCAA conducts its regional championships, May 8-10, across four sites, including Albuquerque, N.M. (New Mexico), Lubbock, Texas (Texas Tech), Columbus, Ohio (Ohio State) and Greenville, N.C. (East Carolina).

If SDSU qualifies for the NCAA finals, it will compete in the national championship series for the first time in program history, May 19-24, at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.

San Diego State, which finished the 2015-16 season with a No. 27 national ranking by Golfstat, returns four of its five regular starters from a year ago, including Blair, a three-time all-Mountain West honoree.
